The Providence LEED house at 18 Boylston Avenue is registered as the first LEED-Home in Providence and is targeting the Platinum level. Designed to be extremely energy efficient, this new home is a showcase for green technology.
The house is located on Providence’s East Side and is inspired by other 1930’s craftsman style houses in the area. Its traditional appearance is belied by its cutting edge amenities and technology.
The shell is constructed with the latest technology, including SIPS panels, and insulated concrete forms. The developer and builder, Native Structures, Inc., is committed to building green homes and following sustainable building practices such as reducing construction waste and using FSC products.
With 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths including a luxurious master suite, the house features a dramatic sun-filled atrium that aids in cooling the house. The exterior uses douglas-fir paneling that is reclaimed from a former structure on the site. The garden and yard is designed to retain stormwater and uses native plants. The mechanical systems include a whole house fan linked to an advanced humidity sensing thermostat system which will reduce electricity bills and provide data for tracking utility consumption on the internet.
Construction kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony on Earth Day 2009 and the home will be available for purchase and occupancy in 2010. Contact Native Structures for more information.
