ADAPTIVE REUSE AND HISTORIC PRESERVATION

One of KITE's key strengths lies in reimagining new life for existing structures. We have been recognized for our ability to transform both historic structures as well as buildings from the more recent past with a reinvigorated spirit. Because repurposing existing structures requires both creativity as well as technical expertise in dealing with often difficult existing conditions, our rigorous approach to detailing and materials serves our clients well.

Our sensitivity to historic neighborhoods and our ability to design appropriate new additions with a forward thinking spirit is a strong legacy of the firm. Founding Principal William L. Kite, Jr., FAIA has won the prestigious Frederick C. Williamson Professional Service Award for new construction in historic neighborhoods specifically for this skill, and many of our Design Award winning projects have involved the transformation of formerly underused and dilapidated structures.
