Amos Carpentry Training Program On-Site at the Providence LEED House
The men and women in the Amos Carpentry Training (ACT) program came to the site of the Providence LEED House by Native Structures, Inc. to see SIPS (Structural Insulated Panel System) construction first-hand and learn how it differs from traditional stick-framed construction, as well as other green features such as the insulated concrete form (ICF) foundation and basement and use of reclaimed materials.
The 13-week training program combines classroom and practical hands-on experiences developed but the National Center for Construction Education and Research, and is run by Amos House in Providence.
Below, Christine West, AIA of KITE and David Kessler, founder of Native Structures, Inc. explain the shear walls which help the lateral strength of the open, three-story central atrium.
