SpurwinkRI and WBNA have teamed to develop this new mixed-use building on Westminster Street in Providence's historic Armory District. Featuring the organic and local food co-operative Urban Green's new retail store on the ground floor, the upstairs will feature one bedroom apartments and common rooms to create supported living units for Spurwink RI.
Green features include high-performance recycled insulation, solar panels, on-site stormwater retention, low-cost flooring that is made corn oil instead of petroleum, and wood windows with a high-performance fiberglass outer face. The building is intended to recall elements of its Victorian neighbors with a contemporary spirit.
Construction is starting in December of 2009 with opening scheduled for fall of 2010.
